Berrett Stradford

Director, External Affairs

Berrett Stradford serves as Director, External Affairs for Friends of Cancer Research (Friends). Friends is an advocacy organization based in Washington, DC that drives collaboration among partners from every healthcare sector to power advances in science, policy, and regulation that speed life-saving treatments to patients. For more than two decades, Friends has been instrumental in the creation and implementation of policies ensuring patients receive the best treatments in the fastest and safest way possible.


At Friends, Berrett leads philanthropic engagement and alliance development. She is responsible for the development of funding strategies; cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding funding commitments, and building Friends support from corporations, foundations, and individuals.


Prior to joining Friends, Berrett was the Development and External Relations Manager at Critical Path Institute (C-Path) in Tucson, Arizona. Working with the Vice President of Development she executed the creation of the Critical Path Foundation. In this role she partnered with C-Path’s leadership team to foster philanthropic and external relationships with individuals, academia, industry, and government to support the organizations multiple scientific consortia and their efforts in creating safe and effective drug development tools.


Berrett began her career in health care at the University of Arizona Health Network (UAHN) in government relations. Her primary focus included legislative affairs, federal grants, and special projects across an integrated health system. This role was integral to UAHN during numerous changes in Arizona’s Medicaid program and the merging and rebranding of two hospitals.
