1 9 9 6  -  2 0 0 6

Over the past ten years, Friends of Cancer Research has pioneered innovative public-private partnerships, organized critical policy forums, educated the public and brought together key communities to develop collaborative strategies in the field of cancer research.

PROGRAMS and INITIATIVES

Friends is committed to educating the public about new opportunities in cancer research and issues that may pose barriers to developing treatments and therapies for patients. Our initiatives include:

  • Pioneering innovative public-private partnerships in research and clinical trials to harness private capital and not-for-profit scientific leadership

  • Organizing highly effective public policy forums that bring together researchers, leaders of the FDA, NCI, and NIH, patients, industry, members of Congress and the Administration, and members of the medical community to discuss critical issues and to develop collaborative strategies to overcome barriers in cancer research, prevention, and treatment

  • Educating the public about the important role cancer centers play in the war on cancer and the critical need to support expanded federal funding for them. Our nation's NCI-designated and other academic cancer centers are the hubs of cutting-edge discoveries and advances in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer

  • Collaborating with the motion picture industry and media to promote cancer research and education
