A Cancer Research Think Tank

Friends of Cancer Research (Friends) is a cancer research think tank based in the Washington, D.C. area.

Working with the entire cancer research and advocacy community, Friends pioneers innovative public-private partnerships, organizes critical policy forums, educates the public, and brings together key stakeholders to overcome the barriers standing between patients and the most promising cancer treatments.

  • 79% of Cancer Research Grants for promising new discoveries go unfunded each year.
  • It takes over 12 years for a newly-discovered cancer treatment to get from the research bench to the patient. 
  • We have made great strides in the fight against cancer, but imagine what discoveries could be made, what knowledge we could already have, and the lives that could be saved, if those grants were funded, if the scientific, regulatory, and clinical barriers between promising discovery and approved treatment were overcome, if the hope for life-saving therapies became the reality.
